Transportation

Under Kim’s leadership Salem has invested millions in its transportation infrastructure, adopted a nationally-recognized “complete streets” policy, and pursued strategies to minimize climate impacts from transportation, improve worker access to employment, and reduce the need to own a car in Salem.

Salem has been a leader in the region for micro-mobility programs and, thanks to Kim’s leadership, has one of the most successful commuter ferries in Massachusetts. Always focused on ensuring a safe, accessible, and inclusive city for all, roadway projects in Salem are based around supporting all modes of transit and keeping our public ways safe. Salem has created new off-street multi-use paths and trails, implemented a neighborhood traffic calming program, and launched an innovated ride sharing shuttle program, using a combination of private resources and public grants.

A strong advocate for public transit, Kim has been a voice for MBTA riders, opposing cuts to service and increases to fares, and fighting to make possible the new MBTA station downtown. She’s also pushed for a new South Salem commuter rail station, more accessible and age-friendly bus stops, and other forms of mass transit, including creating the Salem Skipper shuttle and the Salem Ferry to Boston.
